  1. Southerly 115

Northshore's Southerly's have found their own unique niche market as a comfortable cruising yacht with very shallow draught, yet surprisingly good performance. All feature deck saloons with an interior steering position, and a drop keel which when raised allows the boat to float in very shallow water, or dry out upright.

Why this superbe boat is not in the list ? It's a cult in long distance cruising

                  • Ocean Voyager 26

A small Blue Water capably double ended yacht in the same vein as the Morris Francis 26. Well built with a shoal draft full keel and a transom mounted rudder let the Voyager explore all those smaller islands that larger boats cannot get to... while still being capable of those same long voyages.

The cutter rig with it's short bow sprite and neat wishbone boomkin (made of wood) lead to a versatile rig that allows the sailor to have just the right amount of sail for the wind and still gives her decent pointing ability when those winds are right…

                        • Bristol 27.7

The Bristol 27.7 is a Herreshoff designed offshore capable pocket cruiser. The Bristol 27.7 is the smallest of the second-generation Bristols. They were built between 1976 and 1981 and are well built examples of fine New England craftsmanship. The Bristol 27.7 has a long fin keel with a rudder protected by a stout skeg. The prop is in an aperture inside the rudder, giving it excellent protection. The mast is keel stepped. For it's size the boat has an amazing amount of storage space and has a 63 gallon fresh water tank which are two very important characteristics needed for…

                          • S2 9.2A

These are capable great pocket cruisers and are always getting overlooked. They are extremely well built. Our 1981 model looks like new and we get comments all the time. We sail on Lake Michigan and go out and brave pretty advanced conditions and this boat behaves just fine!

The Grinde (Danish for Pilot Whale) is a truly great little 28ft double ender, designed by the dane Peter Bruun in 1974, a fast, sea going boat inspired by the shape of Pilot Whales.

                                  • Duncanson 34

The Duncanson 34 was an Australian made boat which is often compared to the S&S 34. However, very little can be found in reviews, what to look for when buying 2nd hand etc. There was also a 35 footer which I assume was significantly different in design as the 34 was still being made (I think).

                                      • Columbia 43

Designed in 1969 by William H. Tripp, Jr. in the waining days of the Cruising Club of America was designed for long ocean races like the Trans Pac, which it won the first year it was produced. In 2013, 44 years later, a Columbia 43 raced in the Trans Pac finishing sixth in it's class. But most 43s are cruising boats, at least one completing a circumnavigation. They are known for their interior volume and seaworthy nature in addition to their winning ways.
